Back to work

Another busy day serving the public. The combination of the holiday and several people being on vacation made for a busy, though uneventful day. I suppose I would rather be busy than sit around doing nothing, so it was tolerable.

OS update

Boot camp starts in a week. I am nervous but excited. As a perpetual procrastinator I left getting prepped for it until the last minute. Tonight, after a nutritious meal of pizza and breadsticks, which nicely complimented my lunch of tamales and sugar cookies, I hopped on the elliptical for my first attempt at High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Tonight's workout consisted of a two minute warm up, followed by 5 intervals of 20 seconds high intensity and 40 seconds of normal intensity, ending with two minutes cool down, for a total of nine minutes. It may have only been nine minutes, but I finished out of breath and sweaty. I need a lot of work!!

I started the day with the best intentions for my food choices. I packed bran flakes and some clementines for breakfast, and string cheese, a hard boiled egg and salad for lunch, with an apple thrown in there for luck. What I ate was bran flakes, three tamales, two sugar cookies and pizza for dinner. Quite the deviation. Note to self - stop doing that!!

Holiday Traveling

I must say that I am very thankful that our holiday traveling this year consisted of driving the 15 miles to my parent's house and back. We just returned home from a quick trip to Bass Pro Shop and Trader's Joe and the freeway is jam-packed.

I happen to love Trader Joe's but my husband is rarely impressed. This trip was not as much fun as I hoped it would be. Next time I will have to go by myself or with Mom. She always enjoys a good trip to TJ's. I picked up some Candy Cane Joe Joe's today and they are delicious. I know better than to buy stuff like that, but sometimes my sweet tooth gets the better of me.

OS update -

I am staying off the scale until January 1. I don't want to see the damage from my holiday house-bound grazing until then. Having the next few days off will hopefully reset my mindset, and maybe, just maybe, the number won't be as horrific as I fear. The next week will be spent weaning myself off the junk we have all over the house and preparing for a new way of eating. I have yet to determined what I am going to do. I hate to say diet. because I never do well when I intentionally deprive myself. The tentative plan is to do low calorie, lower fat, no processed foods; focusing on eating whole foods and grains and staying away from the foods that have been processed beyond recognition. Another benefit and goal of this plan is that I can better keep my soy allergy in check. Just about everything you can buy in the store anymore has soy or a soy derivative in it. Eliminating an allergen should also help me feel better.

Countdown to the New Year!

Christmas day is winding to a close. It was a non-traditional Christmas this year, as we did most of our celebrating and gift exchanging last night. Today was spent being way too lazy, and eating way too much!

Welcome. I tried to come up with a witty name for this blog and failed miserably. Aptly Named is in hopes that one day it will be aptly named. Ha Ha.  I didn't want to start yet another weight loss blog, in the hopes that this becomes more than that.  However, it is designed to document my journey to better health and fitness.

Tomorrow starts my new adventure, "Operation Stagecoach"! The primary goal being to lose 50 pounds by the end of April, when we head to the Stagecoach Music Festival in Indio with an eclectic group of friends. Quite an ambitious undertaking (both the weight loss goals and the trip), but I am excited and looking forward to the challenge. My best weight loss efforts come in the form in competition, and as I have no one to compete with, I am competing with myself and putting this whole sordid affair out in the open here on this blog. While it is highly unlikely that anyone will ever read it, at least it will be documented.

The bare bones plan is to spend the rest of 2010 recovering from the holiday season, with 2011 opening in stereotypical fashion with a diet and exercise commitment. Diet is TBD, but I do have the exercise part figured out. At least for the first seven weeks of the year. Fitness Bootcamp, here I come! Twice weekly sessions in the hopes of getting my butt and metabolism in gear.

January 1 will bring in a weigh-in, measurements, and a picture (if my husband cooperates!). I intend on updating my weight daily, my measurements weekly and my photos monthly.

Wish me luck. I refuse to say I am trying, because trying is doing something with the expectation of failure, therefore, I will say I am starting on my path to success, and getting one step closer every day!
